America’s Christmas Hometown
Santa Claus, Indiana
Saturday, December 1, 2012
Each year, the festive town of Santa Claus, Indiana, offers a special picture postmark for the holidays. During the month of December alone, the little Santa Claus Post Office (the only post office in the world with the Santa Claus name by the way) receives over 400,000 pieces of mail.
This year, we’re holding a commemorative ceremony on the first day you can receive the special cancellation. The ceremony will take place this Saturday, December 1, in front of the Santa Claus Post Office. It will begin at 9am CT. Santa will postmark and mail the very letter to a 3-year-old boy from Oak Grove, Kentucky, who asked for Legos for Christmas, and also for his daddy to come home safely from Afghanistan. Santa’s Elves, a non-profit organization formed in 1974 that answers children’s letters to Santa, received the letter earlier in the year.
- Lieutenant Governor-elect Sue Ellspermann will speak about the Christmas destination and special postmark
- Santa will postmark and mail the first letter featuring the 2012 holiday postmark
- Cassie Fischer, postmark designer, will be on hand for an artist’s signing
- Colorized postcards featuring the 2012 holiday picture postmark will be available for purchase
- Visit with Santa
We hope you’ll join us for this special ceremony!
