It’s been pretty toasty warm here lately in Santa Claus. With little or no rain. In light of that, we wanted to share a few safe “campfire” tips with you.
As of right now, Lake Rudolph is not under a burn ban. You are still welcome to start campfires; in the provided metal fire rings of course. Because of our dry situation we do ask that you do not light any tiki torches or other similar products. We’ll keep you up to date on our Facebook page if anything changes.
– Tips –

1. Watch your Campfire. Please attend it at all times. Don’t leave your campsite and let your fire continue to burn. Make sure that it’s fully extinguished before leaving your site.
2. Clear the Area. Make sure the area around your campfire is clear of any trash, vegetation, etc. Everything should be a significant distance away so the fire cannot spread.
3. Fully Extinguish. Always make sure your campfire is completely extinguished. It’s a good idea to carefully pour water on the campfire, stirring the ashes with a large stick to make sure it’s all saturated. Continue pouring more water until you’ve used about a bucket. Turn over any wood or coals to wet all sides. If possible, mix some dirt with the remaining ashes. Ideally, you should make sure the fire is out about 1/2 hour before you leave or turn in for the night. Carefully … hold your hand next to the ashes (not in them) to make sure there is no heat. If you feel heat, add more water and stir again until you can’t feel any heat from the ashes.
Be safe!
