Santa Claus Land of Lights Opens Thanksgiving!

The Santa Claus Land of Lights opens for the season on Thanksgiving night, November 22. This year marks ten seasons for the Family Christmas Light Adventure. For years families have been making the Santa Claus Land of Lights part of their Christmas tradition.

Located inside Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort, this custom drive-through outdoor light show tells the Shining Story of Rudolph with thousands of bright, energy-efficient LEDs and dozens of storyboards. At 1.2 miles long, it is one of the largest holiday light shows in North America. Each vehicle receives a free photo with Rudolph.

Discount coupons ($4 off per vehicle) are offered at 40 McDonald’s locations in Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois. A complete list of coupon locations may be found at

A portion of light show proceeds benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ohio Valley. Over the past 10 years, nearly $50,000 in proceeds has helped sponsor families at the Ronald McDonald House in Evansville, Indiana.

The Santa Claus Land of Lights will be open from 5:00pm – 9:00pm CST on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from Thanksgiving through December 9 and opens nightly December 14 through December 30.  The show is closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Rudy’s Recipe: Perfect Pie Crust

This is my favorite (and easiest!) pie crust. I wanted to share it with all of you for holiday pie baking. 🙂

Perfect Pie Crust

You Need:

  • 2 1/4 cups of flour
  • 1 t. salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 5 – 7 Tablespoons of cold water

Make ‘Em:

**Makes two crusts. Use for one pie as top and bottom or use for two pies with a bottom crust.

Mix flour and salt together in a large bowl.

Cut in shortening using a pastry blender or two knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Add water one Tablespoon at a time, mix lightly with a fork until flour mixture is evenly moistened. It will start to cling together when pressed into a ball.

Divide dough in half and shape into two rounds. Wrap each one in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 15 minutes. Place one dough round between two sheets of wax paper and roll out, working from the center outward. Repeat for the second crust. I promise you’ll never go back to pre-made crusts … it’s that good. And I don’t even like pie crust!
