Now that we’re open daily I thought to help kick off the camping season for 2010 I’d write a few blog posts and share some camping tips!
We’ll do this in three posts; one for tent campers, one for RV’ers and then one for those that may be staying in some of our rentals this season. Some of these are tips we’ve learned throughout the years and others are gathered from a variety of camping websites such as KOA, GoCampingAmerica, etc.
Tent Camping Tips
Tip 1: Use block ice
If you’re packing a cooler (and I assume you will be) use block ice instead of bags of ice. Block ice will take longer to melt, thus keeping your cooler cool for longer!
Tip 2: Rubbermaid is your friend
Take a large Rubbermaid bin and pack your items in it. Once they’re unpacked you can use the bin as a dish washing station.
Tip 3: Plan it Betty Crocker
Plan your meals in advance. If it helps, write out the menu so you know exactly what items you’ll need. This will help you pack. Also, pre-measure your dry ingredients and put them in plastic baggies. That way you’ll be all set to just add them when needed.
Tip 4: Utilize those Walmart bags
Use some extra Walmart plastic bags that you have at home to help pack. To make things easy, pack each days clothes in separate bags. This is especially helpful for your kiddos. That way when you’re ready to head to the bathhouse in the morning just grab that day’s bag of clothes and you’re set.
Tip 5: Cook it ahead of time
Cook some foods ahead of time. Cooked foods always last longer than raw foods. Even better than that, cook some things a few weeks ahead of time and freeze them.
